FAQ's

Where is Ballston CrossFit?

We are located at 1110 N Glebe Arlington VA 22201. We are just 4 blocks from the Ballston Metro. We are also just 2 blocks from the Route 66 exits to Ballston (either Glebe Rd.  westbound or Fairfax Dr. eastbound). We have a huge parking garage (pay parking) under our space, but we encourage you to walk, run or bike to our box. If you must drive, there is plenty of street parking within 2-3 blocks of BCF. There is parking on N. Vernon St. and Vermont Street on the other side of Glebe Rd. as well as parking available on N. Vernon St and 13th Street (these spaces are not zoned and open parking).

How big is Ballston CrossFit? Tell me about the box.

BCF is more than 3,800 square feet of retail space. We are extremely unique for retail space, and have awesome 16’ high ceilings, brand new equipment, great pull-up bar system and floor to ceiling windows around half of the gym. We also are lucky enough to have the bike path less than 100 yards from our space, so we have great access for our running WODs!

Does CrossFit really work? Will I get more fit?

Yes, it absolutely works! CrossFit is the best fitness program in the world! Here are a few success stories of deconditioned people getting into great shape very quickly by dedicating themselves to CF workouts and healthy diet (Patrick James lost 107 pounds in 41 weeks!):

If I am a woman, will CrossFit make me bulky?

No!! target="_blank" style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Click here to watch a great video CrossFit women who are in great shape through CrossFit (including lifting weights) and by eating well. Here is another helpful article written by a woman who talks about the myths of women and weight lifting. Here is one last article talking about women and weightlifting. We KNOW that weight training improves bone density, weight management (you burn more calories at rest!) and cardiovascular health. Those three things alone could prevent osteoporosis, diabetes and heart disease) should get you so jazzed about weights that you immediately go pick up something heavy! After all, strong is the new skinny!!

What is Foundations?

Foundations is our 6 class program that all new CrossFitters must complete prior to joining the main workouts at BCF. In each workout you will warm up, do some mobility work/stretching, learn CrossFit movements and lifts, and then complete a short workout based on those movements. These 6 classes are the best way to learn the fundamental movements of CrossFit.

What is a free class?

Free classes are offered once a week at BCF. We offer these classes so you can experience a CrossFit style workout at BCF. No previous CrossFit experience is required to attend these classes. Click the "Try Us" link in the navigation bar on the right to register for our free class and join in the fun!!

Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?

No! Our workouts and exercises scale to any level. We have trained everyone from eighty-five-year-old grandmothers to extremely obese people, and they’ve all been fine. You will be too. Click here to learn more about getting started and joining Foundations.

What if I’m REALLY out of shape and I’m kind of terrified?

We promise you will be totally fine. Trust us. We have trained people who were bigger, weaker, older, and less coordinated than you are, and they were totally fine. And, more importantly, most of them have greatly enhanced their fitness levels through our CrossFit training!

I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?

While we are not physicians, (and we highly recommend you discuss any workout program with yours), we do find that many of our members have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements, and to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. At the same time, our instructors are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises and tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and again we advise that you consult your physician before starting this (or any other) exercise program.

I’m really fit and would like to skip Foundations and take a Workout of the Day class, can I do that?

No, you must complete Foundations before being allowed to take WOD classes.

But what if I’m really, really fit?

No means no. If you are really, really fit, we can scale up the workouts in Foundations for you. We promise we can leave you lying on the floor, sore and gasping during your workout!

What if I can’t fit Foundations into my schedule? Do you offer Private Foundations?

Yes. For $500 you can take a completely private Foundations, or you and a friend can do it for $750.
